An hour later, Sarah shivered as the sun dipped behind a cloud, reminding her that this clearing wasn’t their own personal paradise but just a secluded hollow in the forest, open to the elements and the eyes of passing dog walkers and hikers. They were lucky they hadn’t been caught.

Frowning, she stroked over Caitlin’s skin, her shirt pushed up to bare the tight muscles of her stomach. Sarah couldn’t help her thoughts wandering back into the past, remembering how two hundred years ago, she had stumbled into a clearing just like this and seen a couple just like her and Caitlin sprawled out before her, making her see red when really, there was no difference between them. Her cheeks burned as she remembered her reaction, how it had sickened her to see a stranger, a commoner, touch her sister. How she had assumed it must be against her will and now… she understood. She felt everything her sister had like a knife to the gut, and it made her want to cling even tighter to Caitlin, the cold shiver that crept through her having very little to do with the weather. “We should go.”

Caitlin groaned as she stretched out, stroking over Sarah’s back as she sat up and pulled her clothes back on. “Mmm, I guess we should. I have college at nine.”

“Better run then,” Sarah said as she got to her feet and used her supernatural strength to pull Caitlin up and into her arms, stealing a kiss to chase away her melancholy thoughts. She faked a smile and ran her hands through Caitlin’s fire red hair. “You look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backward.”

“Or fucked in one,” Caitlin said with a wicked grin before she made sure her clothes covered her, her cheeks a little flushed but easily explained away with the ruse of a morning run. The grass stains, not so much but Sarah couldn’t help but return her grin, this time for real.

“Come on, I’ll race you for real this time,” Sarah offered, drawing a deep breath in as Caitlin dug her feet into the floor, getting ready to sprint.
